Embodied Objects [update]

Embodied Objects was initially a one-off performance, but now I have begun to conceptualize it as the starting point in a larger arc of performance artworks. In my performance work involving ceramics, functional and utilitarian purposes undergo a shift away from literalness as I seek new ways to activate objects and converse with histories. As the first in a series, this piece starts roughly at the beginning of ceramic history, the Neolithic era. At the root of the performance is raw material, ceramic material at its most basic. Linearbandkeramik (LBK) or Linear Pottery Culture is explored through cord binding and marking the body (in place of the ceramic form). The iconography of the Neolithic is interrogated from within the form of the ancient goddess when I adorn my form with large wearable pendulous ceramic breasts. This work is part of my ongoing dialogue with ceramic myth and material linked together with performance action.
